Mother-of-Pearl, or nacre is made up of composite materials found on the inside of shells of molluscs and other sea creatures, bivalves, gastropods & cephalopods. The same composition as pearls and the same wonderful lustre or iridescence. Iridescence means it appears to change colour as the light changes. It is strong and resilient and used for a host of decorative purposes as well as jewellery. Mother-of-pearl buttons are used on the clothing of the Pearly Kings & Queens.
